Better Sleep Means Better Healing

Better Sleep Means Better Healing - Chiropractic Adjustments Release Sleep Hormones.

Healing requires sleep. Chiropractic adjustments unlock specific hormones required for good sleep. The body needs sleep in order to recover and initiate restoration from the trials and stress of everyday living. Most people know the importance of sleep but do not grasp the magnitude of sleep’s impact on health. The same people who acknowledge a need for sleep often compromise rest in favor of extra work or time spent invested in the busyness of life. The fallout results in a lack of sleep which detrimentally impacts every aspect of life and disease.

Regularly achieving less than adequate amounts of sleep destroys a person’s health. Continued sleep shortages contribute to depression, heart disease, lowered immunity, obesity, and type-2 diabetes. Millions of people explore numerous trips to doctors and pharmacies in search of drugs and recommendations for better quality sleep. Americans spent an estimated $41 billion on sleep aids and remedies in 2015; that amount expects to grow to $52 billion by 2020. The issue of acute sleep deprivation impacts people more prevalently today than at any time in history.

A recent study determined that over 1/4th of people have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Nearly 70% of people struggle to fall asleep at least one time per week. Stress and anxiety rob people of the very remedy needed to combat diseases caused by stress and anxiety. Most people do not function well with less than seven hours of sleep. Daily routines convince people that they aptly manage on less than seven hours but the truth remains uncompromised by busy schedules. Most sleep sufferers do not realize or acknowledge the problem and never understand that improved sleep drives so many aspects of quality healing and life.

Chiropractic offers a research-based solution. Research completed in 2015 linked an increase of specific sleep-related hormones following a spinal adjustment. Chiropractic improves hormone chemistry throughout the entire body by adjusting misaligned areas of the spine which hinder mobility and nervous system communication. An intimate relationship between the brain and nervous system exists in every person’s spine. The nervous system directs all healing and function throughout the body by communicating through the spinal cord. The bones of the spine surround and protect the spinal cord and direct nervous system functions. Copious amounts of neurons lace the spine and communicate with the brain every single second. Clear communication requires appropriate alignment and movement of each spinal vertebra. Misaligned vertebrae produce a static-type message to all organs and tissues leading to imbalance and alterations in the release of hormones, including sleep hormones.

Chiropractors do not cure sleep challenges. Chiropractors locate areas of misalignment and immobility in the spine which produce stress in the nervous system. These places of interference (called subluxations) hinder the body’s potential to communicate, heal, and perform at maximum capacity. Chiropractors help men, women, and children of all ages reduce stress in the nervous system through the appropriate application of specific, pain-free adjustments. The resulting benefits unlock health potential that optimizes all activities from work to a restful night’s sleep.

Chiropractic & Spinal Care for Soccer Players

Every sport consists of a unique set of benefits and risks. These counterparts even exist in the world’s most popular sport. More professional and amateur athletes participate in soccer than in any sport in the world. Soccer requires both physical skill and mental strategy to work as a team with the singular objective of kicking the ball into the opposing team’s goal. The most interesting and unique aspect of soccer involves players pursuing their objective without being able to touch the ball with their hands. The rules make soccer both challenging and fun while also subjecting players to significant short and long-term health challenges.

Players compensate for their hands by advancing and scoring using their feet, chest, and head to kick, block, or pass the ball. One method of advancing a ball in flight involves executing a header, when a player impacts the ball by using their head and forehead to impact and direct the ball. Such collisions do not occur without consequence.

Research showed the amount of force generated while completing a header averages as much as 450 lbs. on the head, neck, and spine. The study revealed that the cervical spine absorbs a significant amount of force when a player uses their head to strike the ball. Degeneration of the cervical spine (neck vertebrae) for some soccer players occurs as much as 10-20 years earlier in than that of the normal population. The advanced health deterioration originates from the high impact trauma to the neck vertebrae caused by heading the ball. Other significant pathologies found in the spines of soccer players included disc bulging, bone spurs, disc protrusions, loss of the normal neck curve, and spinal cord compression.

These traumatic consequences originate from heading a soccer ball regularly. The forward movement of the head towards the ball creates a collision which poses significant long-term health risks. Many soccer players establish and maintain a health-restoring relationship with a Chiropractor for the sake of their long-term performance and wellness. All soccer players need to understand the importance of proactive care and prevention for the trauma inflicted by repeated collisions to the head and neck. Waiting until pain and symptoms surface usually indicates the already existing presence of degenerative damage. Chiropractic adjustments keep the spine in alignment and moving properly to avoid the buildup of adhesions which lead to scar tissue and degeneration. The spine also provides stress-reducing side effects from each adjustment that removes stress from the central nervous system.

Other precautions and action steps that accompany Chiropractic care to mitigate long term spinal damage from soccer include:

Insist all players learn and implement proper heading techniques.

Engage with a Chiropractor regularly to ensure that every athlete maintains proper alignment and movement throughout the spine.

Utilize neck extension exercises and use a proper pillow.

Strengthen and stretch the extensor muscles of the back on a regular basis.

Consume a diet filled with anti-inflammatory foods and spices. Excellent food choices include avocados, coconut oil, green leafy vegetables, and turmeric.

Fighting Holiday Stress With Chiropractic

Most would agree that the holiday season intends to promote feelings of joy, goodwill, and peace. Somehow the inevitable mixture of stress, overeating, and long hours work their ingredients into the original blueprint.  A time of beauty and good cheer ends up partnered with reduced function and performance.  A heartbreaking holiday fact surfaces every holiday season. More heart attacks occur on and around Christmas and New Year’s than any other days of the year. The Journal of Circulation states the highest number of annual cardiac deaths occur on Christmas Day,
followed by December 26th and New Year’s Day.

Additional heart attack facts:

Most heart attacks occur on Mondays (Christmas is on Monday in 2017)
Most heart attacks begin during the early morning hours 4 a.m.- 10 a.m. when blood platelets are stickier and increased adrenaline released from the adrenal glands can trigger a rupture of plaques in coronary arteries. Many heart attack survivors report that the attack itself registered as the first sign of coronary artery disease.

Heart attacks risk increase by 27% around a person’s birthday, especially in women with high blood pressure.

The major majority of people will not suffer a heart attack this holiday season.  But people owe
it to themselves and their families to pay attention to the triggers that add more stress to December and January than any other time of year.

Bank statements, bills, and weight gain rob these months of peace and tranquility and the accumulation of stress always proves destructive to the health of individuals and families.
No plan exists to simply accomplish and end goal of lowering or eliminating stress.
Tension, pressure, and anxiety go hand in hand with too many of life’s variables. The key
to maintaining quality health around the holidays and all year long comes from focusing on the body’s ability to adapt. Bills do not just go away. A time and place does exist for indulging in delicious foods and drinks. People cannot prevent various forms of stress from ever occurring, but everyone possesses the ability to better manage the way their body reacts to those stresses.

Chiropractors take a unique approach to health, disease, and stress. Chiropractic concerns the process of strengthening the body to suit the environment rather than the other way around.

Three simple, yet effective ways to increase the body’s ability to deal with and mitigate effects brought on by stress include:

1) Sleep - Get at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Sleep produces vital off
setting effects to stress. Nothing substitutes for a lack of sleep. A key to getting adequate sleep begins with getting to bed on time. All organs and systems of the body slow down during rest except the nervous system. The nervous system stays on duty during sleep in order to promote healing and recovery.

2)Water - Thirst triggers often feel like hunger pains. Water represents one of people’s most under consumed nutrients. Many thirsty people assume they are hungry and eat instead of simply drinking water to quell the urge. Overeating (and under drinking water) increases the waistline and decreases the body’s ability to heal and adapt.  Simply remember to consume half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. (i.e.- a 150 lb person should drink 75 ounces of water per day).

The second best recommendation is to just drink more water considering it’s one of the most under
-consumed nutrients.

3)Chiropractic – Evidence proves that Chiropractic adjustments amplify the body’s ability to deal with stress. Heart rate variability indicates how well a person adapts to stress. Reduced heart rate variability directly links to several detrimental cardiovascular and non - cardiovascular conditions.
An increase in heart rate variability proves to be a key component in improved health and longevity.

A 2013 study from the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine determined that a Chiropractic adjustment, particularly in the upper neck, improves heart rate variability.  Stress amplifies during the window of time from Thanksgiving through mid - January. Combining good sleep habits and
increased water consumption with Chiropractic adjustments will balance the nervous system and help the body better adapt to stress.

Return the holiday season to a time of joy and peace with Chiropractic care. No-one can provide that type of care like ChiroAdvantage.
